Nordic Blu Salmon Debuts at Seafood Expo North America and at Retail
Nordic Blu Salmon won coverage during SENA19:
The world's first and only marine net-pen farmed Atlantic salmon rated “Green — Best Choice” by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch® program makes its debut this weekend in Boston at Seafood Expo North America, and at Coastal Seafoods markets in the Twin Cities. Nordic Blu Salmon will be brought to North America exclusively by CleanFish.
With a score of 7.17 from Seafood Watch, Nordic Blu is the highest rated farmed Atlantic salmon in the world. All sites and farms are also ASC and Global G.A.P. certified.
Feed innovations are key to the fish's leading environmental rankings. Nordic Blu Salmon are fed a custom diet with a higher concentration of Omega-3 fatty acids than conventional feed and with only 17.3% marine content. Vegetable content comes only from producers certified by the Roundtable for Responsible Soy (RTRS). The resulting Fish-In, Fish-Out (FIFO) is 1.13:1. Skjerstad fjord in northern Norway, where the salmon are raised, offers additional advantages with its massive tidal currents and mix of fresh and saltwater that naturally controls parasites.
“We’re proud to be the chosen partner of Salten Aqua Group in bringing this remarkable salmon and the Nordic Blu brand to North America,” says Mike Moniz, CleanFish Managing Director.
Says Dale Sims, CleanFish Co-Founder and Director of Procurement: “The practices and reputation of farmed salmon have come a long way, and we’re excited to promote a fish that is truly at the forefront.”
Of the Green rating from Seafood Watch, Geir Wenberg, CEO of Salten Aqua Group said: “The news that the recommendation was green and thus ‘Best Choice’ makes us confident that our companies are doing the right things. The rating is important for us locally and for the export of salmon in the international market.”
Representatives from Salten Aqua, including Geir Wenberg, CEO, will be in attendance at SENA with CleanFish at a shared booth, #3176.
Fortune Fish MN and their Coastal Seafoods stores in the Twin Cities have been enthusiastic first-adopters and are showcasing the fish in stores this weekend during SENA.
“This is a huge deal,” explains Keane Amdahl, Marketing Director for Fortune Fish & Gourmet Minnesota, “and not only for the Twin Cities or the Midwest. The fact that this fish is now available in the United States helps to set a new standard that could have a huge impact on the health of our oceans.”
